From November 25 to November 26, the Val Thorens ski area will have the honour of hosting two emblematic events in the Ski Mountaineering World Cup over the course of a weekend.
Many curious visitors will have the chance to take to the slopes of Val Thorens to watch this spectacular sporting competition. Wouldn't this be the perfect way to kick off the new ski season, with family and friends?
The Ski Mountaineering World Cup is counting down to the Olympics!
Created in 2004, the Ski Mountaineering World Cup organised by the ISMF puts the spotlight on ski touring at a much more competitive level. The events often go beyond mere speed, with some of the techniques borrowed directly from mountaineering. Unlike traditional skiing disciplines, ski mountaineering combines endurance, technique and the spirit of adventure, making it both challenging for athletes and thrilling to watch for spectators.
This year, the competition will once again be held in Val Thorens, as it was in 2021. With the 2026 Winter Olympics just around the corner, it's a good time to discover or rediscover this little-known sport.
What events are taking place in Val Thorens?
For the 2023 / 2024 season, two ski-mountaineering events will be coming to Val Thorens. During the last weekend in November, spectators will be able to watch a sprint on 25 November and a mixed relay on 26 November: two impressive disciplines.
These events will take place at the resort's Club des Sports, in the Yannick Richard slalom stadium to be precise. From 9 a.m., there will be several activities running alongside the competition to the delight of on-site spectators. Refreshments, conviviality, festivities... the atmosphere promises to be unforgettable in Val Thorens.

This autumn 2023 event is one to enjoy with the whole family!
The 2023 Ski Mountaineering World Cup will first pass through Val Thorens before continuing on to other foreign resorts, including Spain, Switzerland and Italy.
For people who want to see the competition for themselves, or who are simply looking for a great opportunity to go skiing, this event is a wonderful opportunity.
This open-air event offers a variety of activities and the chance to watch some breathtaking sprints and relays. Whether you're coming with family or friends, this competition is sure to create lasting memories!
