A forgotten piece of packaging when picnicking, a walk in a protected area or an unauthorised fire: certain actions can be harmful to theenvironment. Whether on holiday or in everyday life, it's essential to adopt good practice so that you can fully enjoy the splendour of our natural sites while helping to preserve them. The esf Val Thorens and many other organisations in Europe's highest resort are committed to protecting the valley.

Protecting the mountain and its environment: an essential approach for the Belleville valley

At the heart of the 3 Vallées ski area, nestling in the Belleville valley, Val Thorens is a family resort that appeals to both winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. It offers a splendid setting in which to learn to ski, to improve your performance on the slopes and to disconnect from your everyday life as close as possible to the summits.

Every year, however, the resort suffers from the bad habits of some visitors. From disregarding the rules to littering, these attitudes endanger Savoie's flora and fauna.

ESF Val Thorens CSR commitments

Val Thorens and its ski school are committed to preserving the mountains and their inhabitants, and have launched a number of concrete initiatives as part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy. A rubbish collection is organised at the end of the season to clean up the slopes and the various areas set aside for the public.

In 2022, the Vallée des Belleville was also awarded the Flocon Vert label in recognition of the initiatives it has undertaken over several years. Last June, the resort and its various stakeholders (from the ESF to the Tourist Office and the SETAM - Société des Remontées Mécaniques) also signed the "Zero mountain litter by 2030" charter.

Adopt good habits in Val Thorens

Are you planning a holiday in Val Thorens this winter? Join the ESF in making a commitment to ecology in the mountains and adopt habits that will make a difference! During your ski lessons on the slopes or your snowshoeing excursions, don't leave your rubbish behind and take it with you. If the beauty of the mountain flowers tempts you to pick them, don't: they are protected species that contribute to the local ecosystem.

During your self-guided outings, respect the instructions not to enter certain specific areas; you could disturb the animal species that live there peacefully, or even damage the paths. Campers and bivouac enthusiasts, don't leave any trace of your passage and don't light fires, which are forbidden in both summer and winter.

It's possible to reconcile mountain holidays and ecological values at Val Thorens. To take concrete action and find out about environmentally-friendly practices to be applied at altitude, don't forget to ask the resort's professionals and your esf instructor for advice. They'll be delighted to share their experience with you!
