As regular off-piste skiers and cross-country skiers know, there are real dangers in the mountains. From avalanches to crevasses, it's best to identify them before venturing off the beaten track.
With this in mind, ESF Val Thorens has developed a safety training for all those who want it. This makes it possible to educate skiers about the risks involved in these sports.

Off-piste and ski touring: the importance of safety
Even the most seasoned skiers are not spared the dangers of the mountains when they go beyond the marked itineraries. These risks are often unpredictable, like avalanches, but they can be reduced with the right safety equipment and by learning a few good reflexes.
If you want to improve your off-piste safety, ESF Val Thorens has put together a tailor-made programme for you. The short 1.5-hour course will help you to understand the risks and give you a better understanding of the mountain environment (weather, specific terrain, etc.).

Enjoy a stress-free winter holidayHow does ESF mountain safety training work?
The mini safety course offered by ESF Val Thorens takes place every Thursday evening, between 5.30pm and 7pm. If you're interested, you can book your place online now.
During the course, students join a group of at least 4 people and learn together about the risks of the mountains, with the help of an instructor. In less than two hours, they learn about safety equipment and how to use it. DVA, probe, shovel... Each piece of equipment is essential in its own way, as the expert's demonstrations show. At the same time, the instructor presents the mountain environment and its main dangers.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to use off-piste safety equipment on their own, and adopt the right reflexes in the event of difficulty. The best thing, however, is to have a mountain professional accompany you on your outings.
