During the Christmas and February school holidays, many families head for the ski resorts. This winter, as every year, Val Thorens is once again offering a tailor-made programme to occupy your days in the resort.

The traditional torchlight descent is always ready to amaze young and old alike. So if you want to see the slopes light up before your very eyes in the middle of the night, this is an event not to be missed!

Who can take part in a torchlight descent?

The torchlight descent is organised by esf and its instructors during the school holidays. As a result, this weekly event is aimed at children, especially those who are already registered with the Val Thorens ski school.

From Flocon level upwards, the youngest children can take an electric torch and join the participating esf instructors. The instructors will show them the way for a successful night-time descent, in front of parents and other curious onlookers.

After the start, a luminous path will gradually appear near the Castor & Pollux skiing conveyor belt.

Every season, esf instructors also run torchlit descents, to the delight of visitors. Only carried out by professionals, this descent is a real open-air spectacle accessible to all.

Whether they're on skis or a snowboard, the esf instructors parade to the rhythm of the music and light up the ski slopes with torches.

The show is a magical, one-of-a-kind moment out of time, which you're sure to enjoy after sampling a delicious Savoyard fondue.

Torchlight descent: a memorable moment!

The torchlight descent is an original and magical event for all the family. During the school holidays (Christmas and February), you can sign your budding skier up for one of the descents organised by the school, or simply come and watch the show on your own.

Whether you come to see the children or the show put on by the esf instructors, the torchlit descent is an experience you should have at least once in your life. It's not every day that the snow-covered ski slopes can be illuminated by dozens of little lights!
