Perched at an altitude of 2300 metres, Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort. It's the perfect place for winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
As winter gradually settles in, this popular destination of the Tarentaise valley is getting ready to welcome many families. After the madness of the end-of-year festivities, are you looking for a destination for a winter holiday that's both sporty and rejuvenating?
Then Val Thorens has something for everyone, including the famous torchlight descent.
The torchlight descent, a cherished ESF tradition
The torchlight descent is a not-to-be-missed event in the resort. Every winter, once night has fallen, the team of ESF Val Thorens instructors descends the slopes by the light of the moon and electric torches.
It's a magical sight for all visitors, who can admire the descent while enjoying a delicious hot drink before savouring a comforting dish typical of Savoyard cuisine.
Starting your stay in Val Thorens with a torchlight descent will help you to grasp the spirit and values of the resort. Don't hesitate to chat with the instructors after the show!

Enjoy an enchanting show at dusk
From 2025, this annual event will take place every Monday from 8 February to 10 March. Families from all over France will be able to enjoy it during the school holidays and leave with stars in their eyes.
Children and parents share a unique and convivial moment in the company of other groups. It's the perfect time to get to know each other, talk about your experiences in the resort and, why not, make new friends!
The Val Thorens ESF team invites you every Monday from 7pm onwards at Place Caron. This free event is all about magic and living together. The ski school also provides hot drinks and Pitch for a comforting late-night snack.

Get your children involved with ESF Val Thorens
Your children are tempted to take part in the torchlight descent, and we understand. Thanks to ESF Val Thorens, their wish can come true!
Once again this year, the ski school is organising a weekly parade along the Castor & Pollux carpet for young skiers. All young skiers must be Flocon skiers, for their own safety and well-being.
The children's torchlight parade is held every Wednesday during the Christmas (21 December to 6 January) and winter holidays.
